I’d rather beat number 1 than be number 1.
If you are ranked No. 1 everyone is out to get you and knock you out of that golden position. However, if you hover around No. 2 , 3 or 4 all year long you can show up, play high quality basketball, win all your games (well, there might be 1 or 2 losses that pop up), and no one is really, really out to get you. Sure they want to win, but has anyone ever rushed the court when they beat the No. 2 team?
Right now, these are the 2012-2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball Rankings:

| 2. Louisville |

I’m okay with this. I like the No. 3 seat. It gives us confidence but also gives us something to fight for…to beat that No. 1 team! UK doesn’t play IU this year (shame!) but we do play UL on 12/29/12. Not only is that game an important tradition (read: all-time best rivalry in college basketball), but now there is a whole new spin on it. We will fight even harder to beat UL because they are ranked higher than we are.
Hmmm. Maybe I better take back what I said about rushing the court after a No. 2 or 3 take down. Odds are, if No. 3 UK beats No. 2 UL, there will be some blue shirts on that floor!
